LOM engine specifications

The well-known Avia / Aero / Walter engines (see) etc. They were built under the initials "LOM Prague Aircraft Engines Co.", now located in Malesice, in present-day Czech Republic.

-LOM is "Letecke Opravny Malesice" or Air Repair of Malesice.

-It obtained manufacturing rights and made M-332, M-337, and M7, including M-132 and M-137. It is engaged in repair and Overhaul, construction of other engine parts including it builds piston engines and turbines. It also produces propellers.

-Detailing more, the construction of the M-132, M-132A, -B and -C is known. The M-332 series also in -A, -B and -C. The M-137 and M-337 in -A, -B and -C, both.

-LOM works on AL-7, AS-82T, R-11, R-13, AI-25TL, M-701, RD-33 and R-29 engines.

-The piston engines that LOM manufactures are the summary and fruit of the historical burden of the great Czechoslovakian Aviation Industry.

-Historically it has taken over from motorcycle and car manufacturer Walter that was founded in 1896, which in turn also made aviation engines during WWI, based on Hiero, making the II, III and IV models.

-This has taken the memory of CZ, Breitfeld-Danek, etc. Of these manufacturers -and of those times-.

-After WWI the “Blesk” is made, with concepts from the German Mercedes D-1 engines. Year 1921.

-The Perun, Perun I and Perun II models followed. It seems that it is of their own design and with the same previous Hiero and Blesk formula.

-With six upright, inline cylinders, the Perun gave 100 CV, the Perun I gave 190 CV. The Perun II rose to 240 CV.

-From another brand, CKD or Ceskomoravska-Kolben-Danek, they have taken the spectra of engines such as the Prague ES, ESV and ESVR from the years 1927-30.

-LOM also built the Prague “ASSO” that was built under license from Isotta-Fraschini by CKD.

-In 1934 CKD made the Prague B, B2, A engines, reaching D before WWII. later CKD-Praga would show the beautiful Praga E.

-During the German occupation the Junkers Jumo 211 and Argus As-10C engines were manufactured. The latter would continue to be built as Praga AS-10C. The Argus As-411 was also made.

-After the war and with the new Soviet occupation, the AS-21, M-42, AS-621R, AS-82T and AS-82V engines were manufactured.

-From Walter (see) we have an incredible range of engines, very varied, from those that would come to our days, those that LOM manufactures and some small brand that produces the Mikrons. (Moravia Inc., p.e.).

-In the beginning they were known as LOM-1, LOM-2, LOM-3 and LOM-4.

-This was the production of the 1990’s. Now in the years 2003-4, LOM-Praha, with a new image, offered its engines again as LOM M-132, LOM M-332, LOM M-137 and LOM M-337.

-The M-132 and M-332 are 4-cylinders.

-The variants of the former give from 120 to 140 CV. Those of the latter model give from 140 to 170 CV.

From the 6-cylinder M-137 and M-337 engines, the former ones were between 180 to 210 CV while the latter model reached 250 CV.

-As mentioned in the "Prologue" of this Edition, the Czechoslovakian (or Czech and Slovakian) panorama of aeronautical construction and especially engines, is very important.

-It is difficult to place this special engine that LOM in its history has taken from its predecessors. It is the "Staatsmotor" engine.

-It is singular for its valve system on the cylinder head. It is a 9-cylinder rotary engine that we take from LOM's history.

-The intake and exhaust valve has a single common control and is like a cylinder with ports, crossed and that with its movement opens and closes the intake and exhaust ports.

-At the Paris Air Museum, there is another engine with the same formula but with a double star. See UFE’s chapter.
