VOKBM dates back to the days of the USSR, founded by I.M. Vedeneev (Vedeneyev) in 1960 in Voronezh.
- It's the same VMKB, spelled differently depending on the translators.
- Vedeneev was the main chief designer from 1960 to 1973, developing the M-3, M-5, M-7, M-9F, M-14NTK, M-14PF, M-14PT, etc., under Ivchenko's predecessor.
- Professor A. G. Bakanov was Vedeneev's successor and responsible for three well-known horizontally-opposed engines.
- Later, he also acquired licenses to manufacture Italian diesel engines from "VM Motori" (see).
- Bakanov designed the M-17, a four-cylinder horizontally opposed engine with 173 hp at 2,950 rpm.
-It has a fuel injection system. There is a 2,100 hp M-17F version.

“M-17F”
-The Bakanov M-18-01 engine had a 40 hp output and was manufactured between 1991 and 2000.
-It was succeeded by the 54 hp M-18-02, with few differences from the previous one.

“M-18”
-They also designed the M-16, with an X-8 configuration. The M-17 we have seen, and the M-18.
-The M-19 is a horizontally-opposed, four-cylinder, two-stroke engine giving 80 hp.
