Located in Cento, near Bologna, it is a major engine manufacturer specializing in turbocharged diesel engines.

- It passed through the hands of Detroit Diesel Corp. in 1995 and Chrysler in 2000.

- It has granted manufacturing licenses to Voronezh VOKBM (see).

- Identical in size to the well-known Lycoming or Continental engines it aims to replace in "Retrofit," it has three main models:

- The TPJ-, a four-cylinder horizontally opposed, liquid-cooled, diesel, and turbocharged.

- It gives 206 hp at 2,640 rpm. Manufactured from 1987 to the present. ?

-The TPJ-1306HF, a six-cylinder engine giving 315 hp at 2,640 rpm, built between 1987 and 1994, a development of the four-cylinder engine with identical architecture.

-The eight-cylinder engine, even larger, gave 424 hp at 2,640 rpm.

-These diesels ran on commercial turbine fuels such as Jet A-1 and the military JP-4, JP-5, and JP-8.

-All three engines had to be turbocharged to maintain power at altitude, so their operating ceiling was set at 29,000 feet (8,839 meters), with fuel consumption between 40% and 60% lower than those using gasoline.

-Also, the time between overhauls increased by an average of 50%, reaching a TBO of 3,000 hours, compared to 2,000 hours for gasoline engines.

-As the use of AVGAS (leaded) gasoline continues after repeated postponements, the same old prices are following suit and crowding out these new and interesting engines.
