-Rybinsk has produced more than 50 different engines and as OKB and RKBM design bureau it had incredible Chief Design Engineers such as Dobrynin, Galigusov, Koliesov and finally Novikov.

-In the city of Rybinsk the M-5 Liberty were manufactured, and it was in the old GAZ-36 where Dobrynin made the 2,400 HP M-250, an engine that went into production as VD-4K for the Tu-85 aircraft. which later evolved with turboprops into the Tu-95.

-Dobrynin was succeeded by Koliesov around 1960. In 1966 this OKB technical office was renamed RKBM or “Rybinsk Engine-Building Design Office”.

-The V/STOL vertical takeoff engines of the Russian Navy are known, such as the R-38 and R-41, as we will see later.

Rybinsk D-30KU
“D-30KU”

-The D-30KU has been built in large quantities and its evolution continues after the series III was released in 1999 with important improvements.

-It delivered 10,500 Kgf of thrust. (KU-154, KUP-II and III, etc.).

-The D-277 is the Russian counterpart to the D-27 engine built in Ukraine.

-It is a turbofan with 27,600 lbf of thrust.

Rybinsk RD-7
“RD-7”

-The RD-7 was originally known as VD-7, by Vladimir Dobrynin. Both delivered about 24,500 lbf of thrust.

-The vertical takeoff RD-36-35 is considered a specialty of the Rybinsk factory. It was designed by Koliesov.

Rybinsk RD.36-35
“RD.36-35”

-It gave a thrust of 6,700 kgf approx. It has been mounted on aircraft such as the MiG-21PD, Sukhoi T-58VD, Yak-36M, Yak-38 and 38M, Beriev VVA-14 and on Ekranoplanes.

-In a horizontal position they were mounted as “boosters” on the Tu-22, a supersonic bomber.

-Unrelated to the previous RD-36, the RD-36-41, intended for the Sukhoi T-4 bomber, is a powerful engine giving 27,000 lbf dry and 37,500 with afterburner.

“RD-36-41”

The RD-36-51 has no connection with the basic RD-36 for vertical takeoff.

Rybinsk RD-36-51
“RD-36-51”

-The RD-36-51A version was designed for the Tu-144D, a Mach 2.2 supersonic airliner, and with 44,000 lbf of thrust, which was phenomenal at the time.

Rybinsk RD-38K
“RD-38K”

-A simplified version of this engine was the RD-36-51V, for Myasischev's M-17, the “Stratosfera” that accumulated 25 altitude/load records.

-The RD-38 is designed to operate in a vertical and horizontal position.

-In its 38 K version it is also known as RD-60, just as it is on the Beriev A-40.

Rybinsk RD-41
“RD-41”

-The RD-41 is a vertical thrust engine, similar to the RD-36 and RD-38 but considered second generation.

-It was designed for the Yak-41, and it was also mounted on the Yak-41M that some have mistakenly called Yak-141. As we observed, many Russian engines have the same dash number as the aircraft they are used in.

-Designed in 1982, the RD-41 was tested in 1984 and the first production engine was delivered in 1988.

Rybinsk TVD-1500
“TVD-1500”

-The TVD-1500 turboprop is actually the RD-600 design. They are 1,300/1,500 HP engines. For example, the RD-600V is mounted on Ka-62 helicopters.

-RKBM is also a manufacturer of industrial turbines from 2.5 MW to 110 MW, both for electricity generation and gas pumping.

-It makes engines for light aviation such as the Diesel 65 and DN-200, which is designed by Dimitri Novikov (DN). It is a two-stroke, three-cylinder engine with six opposed pistons and two crankshafts giving 200 hp.

Rybinsk DN-200
“DN-200”

-In other parts of this publication, information about this engine is repeated, installed on the Yak-112.

-Other aviation engines for use on ULM are the RMZ-320MR and RMZ640MZ.

-The first is a single cylinder and the second is a twin-cylinder. They are air cooled and give 28 HP with a displacement of 635 cc.
