(See CKD = Ceskomoravska Kolben Danek).
It is an old aircraft engine construction company that built interesting and refined machines.
-Formerly it was Breitfeld-Danek and Kolben-Danek (see) that began manufacturing the Austrian engine under Hiero license in 1915, and later they made their own engines along with some more licenses.
“Praga ESV”
-In 1932 Praga made the 12-cylinder Praga ESV V-engine that was planned to give 750 CV but it only gave 500 CV.
-It had direct output for the propeller. The derivative ESVK reached 650 CV in 1934.
-The ESVR gave 600 CV. The ESVs were a Breitfeld-Danek design and the 650 CV was mounted on the A-330 airplane.
“Praga ESVR, geared”
-After WWII, Praga also changed its name to "Letecke Zavody Corporation National".
-So those mentioned and included ESNK.
-Another view of the Praga ESV with 650 CV.
“Praga ESV”
-In 1936 it was already building a small air-cooled engine, the CKD-B2 giving 40 CV with two opposed cylinders that was installed on the superlight Praga “Air-Baby”.
-Before the B-2, there was the Praga B, 36 CV from the years 1935 to 1940, with double ignition. Jowett in England was licensed to build it there.
“Praga B”
-The Praga B-2 gave 40/45 CV and was built from 1938 to 1948. It had double ignition.
-A reconditioned Praga B-2 is in the engine reserve stock at the MAE museum in Paris.
“Praga B-2, at the MAE”
“Praga B-2”
-Later we got to know the Praga D, a four-cylinder, air-cooled engine that gave 60/79 CV.
-It was mounted on the Praga E-117 airplane.
“Praga D”
-It was built between 1937 and 1950, and it was used in many Praga aircraft, Huruel Dubois, Alaparma, Aeroscooter, Letov KS1C, Sovrotractor, etc.
The DR model also had four cylinders and gave 75/90 CV at 3,300 rpm, with a reduction therefore from 0.75 to 1.
“Praga DH on the HC-2”
-The Praga DH with 83 CV was from the years 1960 and 1961. It had double ignition and was made for small helicopters. Its most attractive application has been on the Omnipol HC-2 Heli-Baby.
-The Praga DH installation on the helicopter can be seen in the two above photographs, placed with a 45° inclination. (M110H).
-The Praga Doris had 6 cylinders and we know from the -B that it gave 200 CV at 2,900 rpm with gearbox. They were built from 1956 to 1962.
“Praga Doris-B”
“Praga Doris B, front”
-The Doris C and M are known. They reached 220 CV. It had beautiful lines and original distribution mechanisms.
-The "E" engines had 8 horizontally-opposed cylinders, and were built from 1941 to 1948. Really beautiful, giving 150 CV at 2,650 rpm with double ignition. The Praga ER was geared.
“Praga E”
-There have been many more engines known by "Praga", such as the M208. (Praga Doris M-208B, for example).
-But let's say that both being in Avia and in the National Corporation, it is obvious that all its engines are attributed to the Praga brand.
-By cross-information on the manufacture of certain engines, we have found that the RK-17 appears as Praga RK-17, when it is better known as Avia RK-17.
“Praga RK-17”
-To finish the Praga chapter, we show the D model from Mr. Castellsaguer's collection, in Mataró (BCN).
“Praga D”
From Appendix 6: We recently located a Praga B installation on a light aircraft.
“A Praga B that is still operational” (AEHS)
From Appendix 9: From my friend Evzen I received a collection of photos of Czechoslovakian engines. From Praga (see Breitfeld-Danek, Breitfeld-Danek & Spol, Kolben-Danek and CKD = Ceskomoravska Kolben Danek).
-They are some new pictures of engines and others of published engines, although from different angles.
“Praga Zr, 1915”
-The Zr is cooled by a forced-air fan, as you can clearly see. It is a 12-cylinder V-engine.
"The Praga Hiero IV, also L (License?), from 1917"
-In the early days the manufacturer was Breitfeld-Danek, going through the names mentioned at the top of this column.
-It happens that in the end everything went to the “Praga” brand, as they appear in this brand's catalog.

“BD-500 (Breitfeld-Danek 500), year 1924”
"ES engine, with special transmission and dynamic brakes, from 1930"
“ESVK from 1932”
-The ESV (year 1930), ESVK (year 1931), ESVR (1931) engines, including the CRK, are 12-cylinder V-engines.
“Praga CRK”
“Praga, Lorraine-Dietrich license, year 1925”
“Praga Asso 1000, from 1932”
-The Praga Asso 1000 RV, giving 1,000 CV at 1,950 rpm, was built with a license from the Italian Isotta-Fraschini.
“Praga engine under Hispano Suiza license, from 1935”
-It was the H-S license for the 12 Ydrs model.
“Praga A”
“The beautiful Praga Doris B”
“Praga B2, from 1935”
-The B2, a two-cylinder boxer, gives 46 CV at 2,510 rpm. And 42 CV at 2,220 rpm.
“Praga D from 1936”
-The D gives 79 CV at 3,000 rpm. The DR version, from 1937, gave 90 CV at the same rpm.
“Praga E, 8-cylinder boxer”
-The ER, from 1938, gave 170 CV at 3,000 rpm.
“Praga E on the Zlin Z-381 airplane”
-Sometimes the Praga Doris B, appears to us as the Praga Doris M-208B as is the following case located in a Museum. It was manufactured in 1954.
“As M-208B”
“Exhibition card indicating Praga Doris M208B”
-See Motorlet, where it appears with this reference. M208B.
