In engine terms, the acronym BHP typically refers to "Brake Horse Power" or brake power. In this case it refers to Beardmore-Halford-Pullinger.
-The BHP engines were first automotive, including armored.

-Beardmore was an engine manufacturer, Frank. B. Halford was an eminent engineer and Pullinger was the director of Arrol-Johnston.
-They came together for trying and improving engines like the 120 hp Beardmore (Austro-Daimler) and soon it reached the 160 HP, thanks to the intervention of Halford, who made them on the Arrol-Johnston premises.
-As is stated in a previous chapter, by 1916, Beardmore manufactured its own engines based on advanced features like the Hispano-Suiza engines.
-They were also built by Galloway and Siddeley-Deasy (see).

-The shown 150 hp already had an aluminum crankcase, that gave it a lighter weight.
-The best-known product of that era was the "Puma" that gave 230 hp. It was manufactured by Siddeley-Deasy in large quantities for the war and it was based on the 230 hp BHP.
"BHP-Ricardo, 230 hp"
-In collaboration with Harry Ricardo on the assembly of a supercharger, which was designed by this other eminent English engineer.
-From this improvement came a great engine: the "Puma".

-Galloway Engineering Co. was founded precisely to build BHP engines, with the "Puma" as the first one. After that, the BHP-Galloway 6-cylinder, inline "Adriatic" appears.
"Adriatic"
-We have found two new photographs with a BHP Adriatic and an Atlantic.
-The Adriatic was a 230 hp, six-cylinder, upright, inline engine that was water cooled.

-Another engine, the "Atlantic", appears immediately, giving 500 hp with 12 cylinders in V.
"Atlantic"
-Derived from the "Adriatic" and taking advantage of the enormous amount of produced cylinders for the "Puma", which were manufactured massively, they placed them in the "Atlantic", getting a similar engine that was renamed as "Pacific". It also gave 500 hp.
