Located in Texas, Superior manufactures parts and spares for FAA-approved Lycoming and Continental engines, but offers complete engines under the XP, Vantage and Millenium names that have not been easily certified, and are therefore used for home-built or experimental construction.

-These engines, being almost exactly the same as the brands mentioned above, are 30% cheaper.

-The latest news is that a 180 HP engine from Superior has achieved certification.

XP-360
“XP-360”

-The XP series includes the following Lycoming-derived engines:

-The XP-320 based on the Lyc. O-320 with parallel valves.

-The XP-360, from the O-360, with parallel valves.

-The XP-361, also on the O-360 with angled valves.

-The XP-362, from the O-360, with an interesting cross-flow cylinder system.

Superior, Vantage
“Superior, Vantage”

-There are plans to modify the Lycoming O-540 as XP-500.

-The Vantage O-360 are basically the same as XP with manufacturing improvements, built in slight variations for maximum adaptation to any aircraft design.

-There is also the Vantage IO-360 version with fuel injection, instead of carburetor.

From Appendix A6/6: Based on Lycoming, the new XP-360 -Millenium- to which a new turbocharger is coupled achieves high performance installed on the Lancair Legacy.

From Appendix 9: This Texas company that modifies engines to obtain a higher performance, taking them out of the original factory standards, has made a new engine, the XP-408AC model.

-Possibly XP stands for Extra Performances, with 408 cubic inches and in collaboration with the company AC Aeronautical Ltd. AC also means “Advanced Competition”

-It is clearly based on a Lycoming engine.

From Appendix 10: This well-known manufacturer of engine spares is launching the Gemini engine in the USA. It is manufactured in the UK by “Powerplant Developments Ltd.” (PPD)

-So, the same engine can appear with the new brand as well.

-As we know from the previous PPD chapter, it has three double cylinders with two pistons each working opposite each other. There are two crankshafts, one on each side of the engine. It is the system used by the Germans in the vertical Junkers Jumo Diesel.

-There is a new product in the line of this engine modification brand and spare parts manufacturer. Now the “Thunderbolt” has come out

-They are taken from the standard manufacturing line, and notable improvements are made at Superior Air Parts.

From Appendix 12: This brand is related to the exceptional Diesel engine with three horizontally opposed cylinders (six pistons in total facing each other two by two) with the idea used with the Junkers Jumo engines (205, 207, etc.).
