Stark Flugzeugbau KG was the engine manufacturer that originated Stark Motoren, which is Stamo by contraction.
-Its engines are easily confused with Porsche and Volkswagen, on which they were based.
-A lot of its engines were fitted on many Druine Turbulent aircraft in France.
-Curiously, Stark had an immediate subsidiary, Stark Ibérica SA of Barcelona, with a cell factory in Caspe, Aragon. One of its managers was Manolo S. Damians.
- Since 1968 the engines were built in Germany under the name Stamo and from 1975 by Karl Pieper GmbH, both in Minden, Westphalia.
- A brief review of the engines known under these common initials. They are the horizontally-opposed, 2-cylinder Pieper Stamo 1000 engines that gave 40 hp at 3,600 rpm with direct output and 70 hp at 7,000 rpm, with reduction gear. They were made between 1982 and 1986.
-The 4-cylinder Stark Stamo 1400-A and -B, giving 45 hp at 3,200 rpm. They were made between 1960-65.
-The Pieper Stamo MS-1500-1 and -2 giving 45 hp at 3,200 rpm, which were built between 1968 and 1993.
-The Stark Stamo 2000 that gave 75 hp was made between 1960 and 1963, and it was based on the 2400 cc VW.
As a complement to the above (see also VW), it is said that it was based on the Volkswagen car engine, providing double ignition and aerobatic qualities.

-The VW 1200 was offered with 40 effective hp in its four cylinders. The oil pan was enlarged and other small modifications are noticeable.
-The 45 hp Stamo 1500 MS was mounted on the Scheibe SF25B Falke motor glider and the engine has many Porsche parts.
