At Socata in Tarbes, the concept of a Diesel engine that consumed Jet A-1 (kerosene) was initiated. This engine was to be used on Trinidad and Tobago aircraft with a view to replacing the Lycoming AVGAS 100LL gasoline engines.

-Once Renault Sport was contacted, work began, resulting in the first MR engines, from Morane-Renault (see SMA and Snecma).
