POLISH - SKODA - WORKS engine specifications

This is PZS, the local name is “Polskie-Zaklady-Skody”.

-It was the first Polish aircraft engine factory. It started with the 400 CV and 450 CV Lorraine Dietrich. There were more than 500 engines of this model manufactured in 1930.

-Between 1929 and 1931, it made 350 units of the 220 CV Wright Whirlwind J5.

-From 1932 to 1933 the 485 CV Bristol Jupiter VIIF was made.

-From 1933 to 1936 they made 300 Mercury IV, V and VI engines.

-In 1935, fifty units of the 580 CV Pegasus II.

-Between 1936 and 1937 there were 300 units of the 670 CV Pegasus VIII.

-Native engines were built under the direction of engineer Stanislaw Nowkruski, including the G-594 “Czerny Piotrus” (Black Peter) with 100 CV.

-The GR-760 of 260/290 CV.

-The G-1620A, Mors I (Walrus I) reached 410 CV and the G-1620B (Mors II) 450 CV. Of these engines 150 units were built.

“PSW-GR-760”

-In 1935, PSW was nationalized and renamed "State Aviation Works, Plant No. 1" (PZL, WS 1) continuing the previous type of Skoda production.

-During 1938 and 1939, two hundred Pegasus XX engines of 920 CV were made and the latter year the Bristol Hercules of 1375 CV.

-Before WWII it had constructed the new PZL-Foka in-line engine prototype that gave 430/600 CV.

-The 800 to 1,200 CV PZL-Waran (Monitor, Lizard) and the 2,000 CV PZL Legwan (Iguana) followed.

-There was also research work on turbines conducted by J. Oderfeld.

-In 1931 they had been built one with an axial compressor and an annular chamber.

From 1933 to 1938, six hundred 110 CV PZ Inz Junior and one hundred units of the 130 CV Major were manufactured under Walter license at the PZ Inz. (State Engineering Works) in Ursus, near Warsaw.

-At PZL-WSZ of Rzeszow the production of the Junior and the Major was taken over from PZ Inz in 1939.

-After WWII, the CSS or Central Study of Engines was established and W. Narkiewicz designed a 4-cylinder with Walter parts giving way to another completely Polish engine, the 65-CV WN-1.

-The WP-1 was developed in 1958 from the WN-1.

-The WN-2 was a 7-cylinder, 280 CV radial.

-The Russian M-11D was also manufactured when Poland was under Russian influence, and from 1948 it was produced in large quantities, followed by the M-11FR.

PZL M-11FR
“M-11FR”

-Wroclaw PZL changed to the new WSK Kalisz Works.

-More than 1,500 M-11s were made between 1949 and 1956.

-The first RD-10A reactor was built in 30 units to gain experience.

-Thereafter the production of the WK-1 (LIS-1) for the Polish MiG-15 (LIM-1) began.

-In 1954 they began to produce the WK-1A (LIS-2), and in 1956 the WK-1F (LIS-5), ending the WK-1 reactor production in 1971.

-In 1952 the WN-3 was designed, a 7-cylinder, 320 CV radial. Its helicopter version was the WN-4.

PZL WN-3
“WN-3”

-The K-5, derived from the WN-3, did not go into production.

-The WN-6 was a horizontally-opposed, 6 cylinder engine that gave 185 CV.

-Later, the Russian, 260 CV, AI-14R was made under license, and the AI-26W (LIT-3) that gave 575 CV.

-The WSK plant in Kalisz manufactured the 1,000 CV ASZ-62-IR model radial for the AN-2 and Dromader for aerial jobs.

-The first experimental TO-350 turbojet with 350 kg of thrust was built at the WSK in Rzeszow.

-Next was the HO-10 with 800 Kgf of thrust, and in the early 1960s it gave way to the SO-1 with 1,000 Kgf, planned for the Iskra TS-11 jet trainer.

-The SO-3 turbojet was also built from 1971.

-At the same time, the Russian GTD-350s were manufactured for helicopters, with 400 CV, and 450 CV of the -P model.

-In 1975, Pezetel (a Polish public company for foreign trade) acquired the licenses from Franklin to manufacture the models 2A-120 with 60 CV, the 4A-235B with 125 CV and the 6A-350C and A with 220 and 235 CV respectively. See PZL.
