Founded as LeBlond Engines Inc of Cincinnati, OH
-It also manufactured machine tools and famous lathes such as Makino.
-In 1928 LeBlond Co bought Detroit Aircraft Engineering Corp and its 5 cylinder Air Cat.
-There were more vicissitudes since in 1937, Rearwin Airplanes bought LeBlond and called it Ken-Royce Motors.
-In 1939 he was Rearwin again.
-In 1942 it was sold to Empire Ordnance Company and in 1946 activities ceased. (see also Ken-Royce Motors, Commonwealth, Pigman, American Flyers, and Rearwin).
- Little known was the 40 HP three-cylinder.
-The logo with a "fleur-de-lis" is characteristic.
“LeBlond 3-cylinder”
The 60-5D are from the year 1928, they give 60 HP, (from Detroit Air Cat). With ATC-12 type certificate.
“LeBlond, 60 HP”
“LeBlond/Rearwin 70-5E”
-The 70-5E, -5DE, 1930 had the ATC-48 and gave 70 HP with 251 cu. in of displacement. These engines were also Rearwin / Ken Royce -5E. They were used in Rearwin 8500/9000 series aircraft.
-There was the 80-5F with US Military R-265 denomination giving 80 HP. It had five radial cylinders, just like the 855 5F, -5DF with ATC 46 certificate. They had a displacement of 265 cu. in.
“85-5DF”
-The 85-5DF from 1930 gave 85/90 HP. And with 5 cylinders there also was the 90-5F and 90-5G, the latter would be the Rearwin-Ken Royce 5G. There also was a 120 hp, 5-cylinder.
-A little earlier, in 1929, there appeared a seven-cylinder with only 90 HP (ATC 20).
“7-cylinder, 90 HP”
“7-cylinder 110 HP”
The 110-7DF (ATC 52) with a displacement of 372 cu. in. became the Rearwin-Ken Royce 7G.
-A model G of this brand appears, a five-cylinder radial, giving 125 HP at 1,900 rpm.
“LeBlond G”
From Appendix 6: Builder of 5 and 7 cylinder radial engines.
-The Leblond 5D gave 63 HP and was introduced around 1928.
-The Leblond Company in Cincinnati purchased Detroit Aircraft Engineering Corp and its Air-Cat 5-cylinder engine.
“Leblond 5D”
-Later, in 1937, Rearwin Airplanes bought Leblond and renamed it Ken-Royce Motors.
-The 5D engine displaced 239 cu. in. with its 5 radial cylinders. The cylinders were interchangeable with the 7-cylinder engine.
-The one in the photograph has been located at the Vancouver Air Museum and is sectioned.
