This is the Lambert Engine and Machine Co., which in 1929 acquired the Aircraft Division of the Velie Motor Company.

Lambert R-266 radial engine
“Lambert R-266”

-The radial “Major Lambert” 5-cylinder model gave 85/90 hp at 2,375 rpm, with 266 cubic inches of displacement (some documentation mentions 226 cubic inches). It was an air-cooled engine.

-The R-266 - its official name - was installed on the “Monocoupe 90”, for example.

-The Lambert Engine Corp. was based in Moline, IL.

-Now we mention an experimental Lambert, a horizontally-opposed, two-cylinder engine that used the R-266 cylinders.

-It was the H-106 that gave 35 hp at 2,500 rpm. The year was 1930. We have no further information.

-In the USNA Registry of Records there are entries between 1930 and 1942 about two Lambert engines, the R-270 and the YR-270.

-The Lambert Aircraft Engine Corp. was the successor of the Lambert Engine and Machine Company from 1936.

-It seems that it received the Velie Motors Corp. (see) which had already begun to build the M5 engine.

-Curiously, these engines are very similar to the Detroit Aircat, in its turn to Leblond (see) (Le Blond sometimes) which caused legal litigation.

-The M-5 started in Lambert-Velie with 45 hp going up to 55 hp and shortly thereafter it gave 65 hp at 1,900 rpm.

“Lambert-Velie L-9”

-The Lambert-Velie L-9 is more known as Velie L-9 since it was at Velie Motors Corp where it was first designed and built in 1928.

-It had 644 cu. in. of displacement and gave 180 hp at 1,900 rpm.

-The Lambert 90 engine was a development of the M-5 with notable differences, with 90 hp at 2,375 rpm. It was also known as R-266.
