These are the initials of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. with a factory in Bangalore. HAL recently manufactured Turbomeca and Rolls-Royce engines under license. From the former they made the Adour, Astazou and Artouste and from the latter, the Orpheus 70 and Dart 536-2T.
-At the factory in Koraput, they made the Tumanskii R-11, R-13, R-25 (for the MiG 21 bis), the R-29B (for the MiG 27M) and the TRD MK R37F, with afterburner.
“HAL-Astazou”
-HAL has an important tradition of manufacturing engines.
-The well-known HF-24 aircraft was tested with an Orpheus of Bristol-Siddeley that was together with Snecma in a joint venture later. For this airplane's mass production the Brander engine was planned, but eventually they mounted Klimov's VK-7 with 3,040 Kgf of thrust.
“HAL-Adour”
-In collaboration with Turbomeca, the "Shakti" engine is made, which in reality is an Ardiden 1H according to Turbomeca.
-The collaboration of both companies goes back to the years 1960-61 when they built the Artouste.
-They began building the Shakti towards 1999 to repower the Dhruv helicopters that use the TM-332, (version 2B2). And for new Dhruvs.
“HAL-Turbomeca Shakti”
-HAL also manufactured horizontally-opposed, 4-cylinder piston engines like the PE-90H. This was in 1959, and it was the first engine designed and built in India. There also was the PE-100 that gave 100 hp.
“HAL-PE-90H”
-The HPE-2 model had 6 horizontally-opposed cylinders, and delivered 185/250 HP of power. They were made with the intention to be used on agricultural aircraft. The HPE-4 had 8 cylinders and gave 400 hp.
-Apart from the aforementioned engines that were built under license, the HAL HJE-2500 turbojet engine was prepared for the Kiran training aircraft, at the Bangalore factory.
-A single shaft engine with a 7-stage axial compressor driven by a single-stage turbine. Its first flight was made in 1966. Precisely the engines that were manufactured under license put this engine away.
“HAL-PTAE-7”
Another HAL engine was the small PTAE-7 jet with only 350 Kgf of thrust. It was built for vehicles without pilot, RPV, totally expendable, so they were short-life engines.
-These engines were used by target drones, although the first tests devices used the Microturbo TRI-60, the PTAE-7 was used for mass production.
From Appendix 6: HAL's Motor Division in Koraput has built an important range of engines, but what is interesting, is that they have been licensed both from the west and from Russia.
-Going over it again, we have the AL-31FP for the 4th-generation Sukoi-30.

-This company from Bangalore, is the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
-It was founded in 1940 for the construction and maintenance of WWII aircraft.
-After independence it was acquired by the Indian government. In 1960, the Motor Division started, and began with building the Adour Mk811, the Garrett TPE331 and the Artouste IIIB turboshaft.

-HAL also built the liquid propellant rocket engines of the Defense Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) for the Prithvi indigenous missile.
“The rocket engine with 3,000 Kgf of thrust”
-Around 1979, they began manufacturing the Turbomeca TM333B with 850/950 SHP for a military helicopter.
“TM333B engine”
-HAL also has a great capacity to carry out checks, overhaul and maintenance of all types of aircraft engines.
-They serviced the Adour MK804, the Dart 533 and 536 on the HS-748 aircraft, the Orpheus 70105 on the Kiran aircraft, the Gnome 1400 on the Seaking, the Avon on the Indian Canberras, the Allison 501K and LM2500.

From Appendix 10: In 2016, HAL presented a new turbofan engine with reference HTFE-25 (Hindustan Turbo Fan Engine)
“HAL HTFE-25”
-Designed for advanced and intermediate training aircraft, as well as business jets (executive jets).
“HTFE-25 front view”
-Under the engine there is the "banana" or accessory box.
-At the time of this presentation, the turbo shaft HTSE-1200 has also been built for use on helicopters of up to 3.5 tons in of "single engine" configuration, and from 5 to 8 tons on twin-engine configuration.
-With 1.200 Kw of power it can run up to an altitude of 7,000 meters.
-They were designed and developed at HAL's AERDC. This is the "Aero Engine Research & Design Center".
