Motor with a principle similar to that of Lamplong (or Lamplough). A two-stroke, six-cylinder rotary radial with a forced mixing system by means of a fan.

-There was in single and double row rotary as we could see in the two illustrations above. In 1921, Garuffa showed a Diesel engine in Paris.

-We have located the Diesel engine that is mentioned in the main text and that was presented at the 1921 Paris Air Show. We see the most reinforced engine and being a single row rotary.

-In place of the spark plug on the cylinders there is an injector on the side of the combustion chamber. The supercharger is very similar.

-And below the photograph of the same engine, but air cooled, as an example.

-Engineer Garuffa is also the author of several books on aviation engines. Some of them are still available for consultation in university libraries in Italy and Spain.

-It is a nine-cylinder two-stroke Diesel engine. It has a large supercharger at the rear to facilitate cylinder filling.

-The power was between 180 and 200 CV. The consumption of 180 to 200 Gr./CV/Hr.

From Appendix 7: We collected an information in PopMech, referring to the water-cooled diesel engine that appears in the main text.

-It is a photograph of the time, although referred to the design of an ingeriero named E. Garutta instead of Garuffa (Author of several books on aviation engines, by the way).

-As an additional detail, and very interesting by the way, is that it used gasoline and magneto during start-up. It changed over to run on Diesel oil immediately, using a special device to vary the compression for one case and the other.

-At the rear of the the engine we see the double mechanical superchargers.

-See the Garuffa-Gargiulo version. It is the same, water cooled.
