This is an American experimental engine, from an inventor of the state of Ohio in the 1930's. Although we know it was nothing new since other similar engines were working, such as the Beck, Dewandre, Baradat-Esteve and later the German Lutz.

-The name "Doughnut" comes from its Doughnut or ring shape.
