CLERGET - CLEMENT

(France)

CLERGET - CLEMENT engine specifications

In 1907-08, Eng. Clerget in collaboration with Mr. Adolphe Clément created a 7-cylinder horizontal radial engine.

-It was presented at the Paris Air Show in 1908. At the top, two conical gears formed part of the transmission to the propeller placed in a normal position. This same system was also used by Farcot.

-This engine appears in Clément-Bayard. Actually it is the same. But it is also known by its other collaborator, Mr. Clerget.

-As an anecdote it should be said that Adolphe Clément himself associated the authentic name of Clément with "Bayard" in the period in which he was a motorcycle manufacturer. Bayard was not his last name but he adopted this nickname because of a statue in front of his factory's main entrance. The statue's character's name was Bayard.

-Going back to the reference engine, it gave 50 CV at 1,200 rpm, weighed 75 kg and the radiator 12 kg (it was water cooled and fixed). It was intended for the Tatin airplane.

-We present the 7-cylinder, horizontal radial engine that gave 50 CV.
