CHERNYSOV (CHERNYSHEV)

(Russia)

CHERNYSOV (CHERNYSHEV) engine specifications

Currently it is "Chernyshev Moscow Machine Building Enterprise" and is based in Tushino, in the same place as in 1932 when it started its activities repairing engines like MG-11, MG-21 and MG-31.

-During WWII, between 1938 and 1946 they manufactured the following Charomsky engines: AN-1, M-30 and ACh-30B, from 900 to 1,500 CV.

-Many models of this brand end with -300 as a reminiscence of GAZ-300.

-Today it is a JSC (Joint Stock Company) that develops and builds Klimov jet engines.

-Between 1947 and 1959 the plant mass-produced the RD-500 turbojet based on the Rolls Royce Derwent V. In 1950 they started to manufacture the Klimov VK-1 with centrifugal compressors for the MiG-15bis and MiG-17. The latter aircraft was the first to pass the sound barrier horizontally.

-In 1952 they began to mount axial-flow AM-5A engines, which were designed by Mikulin, Stechkin and Tumansky (see).

-The plant also made rocket engines like the Isayev (Isaev or Isaiev) clusters with 4 liquid fuel engines that delivered 68 tons of thrust.

-They were also fitted on the Yakovlev "Burya" providing a great contribution to supersonic flight development.

-The Burya is an intercontinental cruise missile.

-Between 1960 and 1986 they made several series of R-11 engines, and they also manufactured the R-27, R-29 and R-35.

-Two-shaft engines with afterburners and supersonic station compressors, designed by Khachaturov, Metskhvarishvili and Tumanskii.

-Since 1985 this factory has been producing the RD-33 designed by Klimov.

-These engines are currently used by the MiG-29 and as we see, the accessories are on top of the engine, due to the airframe design.

-The RD-33 version with its accessories -commonly- under the engine is the RD-93.

-Lately, the factory has been directed by another remarkable technical director like Alexander Novikov.

-The RD-35 is built by Chernyshev, along with the R-27F2M-300.

-The RD-33 is in the range of 5,000 kgf dry, and 8,300 kgf with afterburner.

-The RD-1700 with 1,700 kgf of thrust has a design that is similar to the French Larzac. It was followed by the RD-2500 with a thrust of 2,500 kgf. This engine is used in light  combat and training aircraft. And possibly it is used in certain UAVs. The design of this engine is from "Soyuz" OKB together with TSiAM (CIAM).

-Chernyshev is a manufacturer that builds engines according to the traditional Russian system.

-The TV7-117 turboprops are also manufactured at this plant. They are intended for small regional aircraft such as the IL-114.

-Specifically they build the TV7-117SM and ST models with 2500 CV (1840 kW). This engine was designed by Klimov.

-Chernyshev modifies and improves engines, creating new series.

-For example, the RD-33 is a veteran used in the Mig-21 as retrofit and is suitable for the Mirage III, etc.

-For the MiG-29 it has been adapted with a variable nozzle as shown below.

-Together with "Klimov Design Bureau" improvements and upgrades are carried out.

-For example, the RD-33MK with a thrust of 9,000 Kgf is intended for the aircraft-carrier based MiG-29K.

-Following the trail of the above-mentioned RD-93, the SMR-95, which is a RD-95 variant, was designed to supply power to the Mirage F-1 and Super Cheetah D-2 of the South African armed forces.

-The TV7-117V is an improved turboshaft and is also known as VK-3000V.

-They are used on the Mi-38, Ka-32 and Ka-52.

-Some of the mentioned engines have industrial versions.

From appendix 9: Lately it has a new logo with the UEC (United Engine Corp.) acronym added.

-The TV7-117SM has a power output of 2,500 SHP and the ST version increases the power to 2,800 SHP. The SM is used in the Il-114 turboprop.

-Chernyshev also offers the TV3-117 (VK-2500) for helicopters.
