CARDEN-FORD
(UK)
(See Carden).
The light 31 HP Carden-Ford engine essentially was the Ford-C car engine from 1935. The engine was also the 10 model.
"Carden-Ford"
-The Ford C was water cooled and had 4 cylinders with a total displacement of 1.17 liters. It was used with pusher or puller propellers.
-As stated earlier in the Carden chapter, it was mounted on the Mignet.
-Another version that gave 40 hp included supercharger and a slight increase in rotation speed but this was decreased by reduction gear at a rate of 1.1 to 1. It was the Carden-Ford SP-1 model.
-Ford has also been mounted on the Carden-Baynes-Bee, on the Chilton DW-1 and DW-1A, and Kronfeld monoplace, etc.
From appendix 6: As mentioned in the main text it was a Ford engine to be used in light aviation.
-In the case of the illustration below, we see a water-cooled, 30 hp Carden, installed on a Pou-du-Ciel.
-Water radiators can be observed under the upper front wing and some thick tubes leading to and from the engine.
-Therefore water circulates by convection: the hot water rises above the cylinder head and the cold water descends to the bottom of the cylinder block.
“The installed Carden” (PiP=pm)
From appendix 9: Below we show another Ford engine variant, adapted for aviation with a rear box to house the ignition system, somewhat bulky so it should include a magneto, or Delco ignition and corresponding high voltage coils.
-It is unknown if it has some other accessory.
