Cooperation between a manufacturer of an aircraft (S. Burgess) and a manufacturer of an engine (R. White). By the end of 1913 Burgess had built an airplane, the Dunne-1, but the right engine was not available on the market. He turned to a friend, who was a car manufacturer, White.

-Burgess suggested White to build an air-cooled, 16-cylinder X-engine joining two V-8 engines at their base to obtain 500 hp.

-The idea evolved to the "X-16" that we show here. The V8 engines were not only joined by their bases but had other angles and were mounted on a different crankcase, horizontally split in two.

-The V angle between the two upper cylinder rows is more closed. Possibly this engine was never finished.

-For Burgess-Morton, see Morton.
