Aerospace Engines A to Z
Aerospace Engines A to Z

(See Franklin Engine Co, also Doman-Marks and WSK-PZL).

-Aircooled Motors was founded after the bankruptcy suffered by Franklin Engine Co in 1935.

-Doman and Marks were two of the company's engineers who acquired it and continued until 1945, when the Republic Aircraft Co. took it over to secure supplies for the 6-cylinder "Seabee".

-The total planned production was not accomplished and in 1947, again for sale, it was acquired by Tucker, an exceptional custom-built-car manufacturer. Without building a single aircraft engine he adapted them for his famous cars with significant variations.

-And in 1961 it is sold again and acquired by Aero Industries Co. that renamed it Franklin again and they manufactured engines until 1974, when it was acquired by Audi Brazil. The following year it was sold to WSK-PZL of Poland including Certificates of type engines.

From Appendix A7/6: This company began building industrial air-cooled engines like the one in the picture below.

“Air Cooled Car Co.”

-The author is doubting whether it is the same Air Cooled company in both cases, as they were specialized in air-cooled engines.

-The Air Cooled became Franklin for aviation and among its vicissitudes is it, having gone into the hands of Tucker, the manufacturer of exceptional cars whose adventure ended badly. See main text.

-It has always been speculated that he used the same aircraft engines. But as we have seen in another occasion, in Addendum 6 of this publication, they were Franklin engines but water-cooled.

-Observation of the author: Air Cooled Motors of this chapter is written separately while it has always been known as Aircooled (after Franklin) written jointly. Therefore the reservation about this relationship is maintained.
