In the WWII war effort, the American automobile manufacturer “The Studebaker Corporation” was involved in the construction of aircraft engines.
-It made the Wright Cyclone R-1820 under contract. This engine had a displacement of 1820 cu in. and was installed on the Boeing B-17E flying fortresses.

-During the war, Studebaker studied a high-power engine for long-distance bombers, which would be characterized by its low consumption.
-The result was a horizontal H-shaped engine, with 24 cylinders, with reduction gear and two coaxial contra-rotating propellers.
-Power rose to 5,000 HP at 2,200 rpm, for which it was turbocharged and the displacement was no less than 9,350 cubic inches.
-With a four-stroke cycle, the cylinders were large, with difficulties in ignition propagation.
-This liquid-cooled engine had cylinders of 8 inches of bore and 7.8 of stroke.
-The engine was somewhat monstrous as it measured 105 inches wide (more than 2.5 meters), 40 inches high and 240 inches long -including the transmission for the propellers-.

-It was going to be known as the H-9350 but it was left as the XH-9350 (X for experimental) due to difficulties, especially the aforementioned ignition within the cylinders.
-After the war, Studebaker continued to build engines, but they were now General Electric turbojets, such as the J-47-ST-25 (a version of the J-47-GE-25).
From Appendix 10: From a website by David Jackson we got two models which he photographed at a US museum.
