Updated: 21-Aug-2024
This name is credited to a large, 300 hp, two-stroke piston engine, the AMBS-1.
-But also a series of very low-power electric rocket motors, for maneuvering or orbital control.
-From the OKB Fakel, Stechkin directs the design and construction of the SPT series.
-The SPT-50 for the Meteor-Priroda satellite, years 1972 to 1978.
-The SPT-70 (thrust from 0.001 to 0.01 Kgf) for the Yamal.
-The SPT-100 with double the power of the previous one (0.002 to 0.02) for the Meteor-Gals.
-An improved version of this engine is developed at the French SEP (see) in cooperation with the OKB Fakel.
-There are the SPT. 140, -200 and -290. The -200, from 0.008 to 0.08 Kgf of thrust.
From Appendix 9: Engines known recently of this brand.
-SPT-100 (con SEP)
-SPT-140
-SPT-200
-SPT-290
-SPT-50
-SPT-70
“Stechkin SPT-100”
From Appendix 12: The engine attributed to Stechkin as AMBS-1 (see main text), was actually a project done in collaboration of two eminent designers: A.A. Mikulin and B.S. Stechkin.
“AMBS-1, schematic drawing”
-The acronym AMBS is therefore, the grouping of the initials of both.
“Detail of the pistons and their movement”
-It is therefore not a revolver or barrel type engine. With inclined plates and a central power output shaft.
