In this chapter we treat the engine of the car built by Daimler, the “Smart”, adapted for aviation between Daimler and FK with reduced weight and giving 82 CV.

-It already has the experience acquired in millions of kilometers traveled on all the roads in the world.

-The adaptation made by FlyEco GmbH for the small car engine manufactured by Mercedes Benz is beginning to be used in light airplanes.

-The engine itself is called M-160/1. It is a turbocharged engine that has 3 inclined, in-line cylinders, giving between 60 kW and 70 kW.

-To be used reliably in aviation, it has double ignition. It also has an intercooler.

It is liquid cooled, including the turbo.

-It has electronic engine control (ECU) with redundant power using potentiometers and e-gas.

-It is still in the testing stage. It is very similar to the Thielert (see) and performances of the Rotax 912 UL.

From Appendix 9: The engine of the popular city car has also been adapted for aviation as we see in the following example.

-The engine is of the type with CDI injection. The Flyeco brand also uses the Smart (Mercedes) with two variants, the 799 cc Diesel with 80 HP and the 999 cc and 102 HP Brabus.
