Around 2006, the Scuderi Group announced the patent for a new piston engine called “Air-Hybrid” and also “Half-cycle” since, being a four-cylinder design, only two cylinders gave power, that is, only two performed effective work.

-The first prototype was presented in 2007 and a version for UAV is planned. The application of this type of engine with a propeller considers high performance, less Co2 polluting, lower consumption, etc.

-The first cylinder sucks only the air and sends it to a pressure tank where it accumulates to be introduced into the power cylinder below.

-On cruise or descent flights, pressure can be built up in the tank, which is an advantage.

-The first real example was for an automotive engine as we see below together with its boiler.

-Here we have clearly seen the pressure tank. Another version is the supercharged one that we show below.

-For its aeronautical use, firstly in an unmanned vehicle UAV it is known as “Scuderi Air-Hybrid Aircraft Engine”. We will be attentive to its development.
