Giovanni Pegna was a Piaggio designer for many years and notorious for having developed an original P.7 seaplane for the Schneider Trophy in 1929. It was in fact a “Hydro-sky”.

“Piaggio P.7”

-Hidro-sky is the name of the time, more modernly the name “Hidrofoil” would have been applied to it.

-The main engine was a 970 CV Isotta-Fraschini Special V-6. This engine that drove the front propeller also drove a marine one at the rear.

-When it reached enough speed and the nose was raised, the front propeller would rotate and the plane would rise. But due to transmission problems, it did not work, nor did it ever take off.

-Giovanni Pegna enters this chapter because in 1924/26 he had designed a small engine with 2 horizontally-opposed cylinders. This Piaggio & Pegna engine was for light aviation and gave 30 hp at 1,650 rpm.
