Also known as the Northrop Aeronautical Institute. In the 1950's in their classrooms a small enough turbine was designed to power a private plane like the Ryan Navion, in a compound way, keeping the piston engine in the bow.

-The engine was developed around a turbocharger from a P-38 aircraft. It had four combustion chambers and weighed about 172 lb. It delivered 329 lbf of thrust.

-Developed as a class project it was not only designed but also built and tested. It was of modest performance, do not forget that it was actually a turbocharger and of its time.
