Monnett Experimental Aircraft is dedicated to the conversion of Volkswagen auto engines, having started its activities in 1971, it presented the 1300 cc immediately.
-By 1985 the company was sold to Innovative Aviation Ltd. from UK which already had the rights to the Lotus.
-Monnett still has a relationship with AeroConversions of the USA, but we do not have more details.
-Monnett engines were converted by John Monnett in the first facilities assembled in Elgin, Illinois.
-All the engines had horizontally-opposed cylinders.
-The 1300 cc gave 46 HP. The 1600cc had two nicknames: the Super-Vee and the E-Vee, giving 50 HP.
-The same for the 1700 cc, with the same names, giving up to 65 HP at 4,000 rpm.
-The 1835 cc and the 2007 cc were both known as E-Vee. An 80 HP model was the Aero-Vee, built between 1980-85.
From Appendix 11: After selling the company to Innovative Aviation Ltd (INAV Ltd.) John Monnett founded the company Sonex Aircraft (see) which sells kits for "homebuilt" aircraft with VW engines.
