MISTRAL

(Switzerland / USA)

MISTRAL engine specifications

This company was founded in Geneva, Switzerland in 2001 with a subsidiary in Daytona Beach, Florida.

-They build engines based on 2 or 3 Wankel rotors. In fact they are based on the Mazda 13D.

-The general appearance is very similar in all models, except the size. These engines use planetary gear.

-Two rotor engines are the G-190 that gives 190 CV and the G-230TS that delivers 230 CV, with turbo.

-Both engines are using AVGAS 100 LL.

The G-300 and G-360TS with 3 rotors are also running on gasoline.

The K-230TS and K-360TS models run on diesel or JET A1.

From Appendix A4/6: In the main text it is maintained that it is a Swiss company with a subsidiary in the USA. That is why the two countries are mentioned here.

-They are using units according to the Wankel type, resulting in a smaller engine for the same power as its alternative engine competitors. Multiple units can be coupled to form more powerful engines.

-The simplicity of the Wankel system chosen by Mistral can be seen in the following illustration in which on the left we see the Mistral power unit parts, comparing them with the necessary parts for an alternative one-cylinder engine with an equivalent power.

-Like all current engines on the market, the Mistrals can use injection systems, turbochargers, redundant engine control such as DEM or Digital Engine Management.

-It is a multi-fuel engine as well.

-It can use PSRU reducer to lower the propeller revolutions to 2200-2300 rpm and even 2000 rpm in cruise speed, which reduces noise.

-Reviewing the range that is currently offered (2009) we have in the first place the G-200 with two rotors and producing 200 CV.

-It can use AVGAS 100LL gasoline, unleaded automotive gasoline, octane number 87 from USA, 92 ON from Europe or higher ON.

-The G-230-TS gives 230 CV, with two rotors of 654 cc each, like the G-200, but this greater power is obtained through a turbocharger.

“Mistral G-230-TS”

-The G-300 has three bodies. The G-300-C2B model is the only one in the range that is in the process of being certified in the USA by the FAA.

-The power is 300 CV with DEM, PSRU so that the 300 CV is delivered at 2,250 rpm of the propeller only.

-And the version with turbocharger gives 360 CV at 2,250 rpm of the propeller, 320 CV at 2,150 rpm of the propeller and 270 CV at 2,000 rpm.

-On all Mistrals the rotor units measure 654 cc (39.9 cu. in.). It is the G-360-TS version.

-The Mistral G-200 gives 200 CV and the G-300 delivers 300 CV. Both can run on 100LL leaded gasoline and the UL unleaded gasoline used in Europe with 92 O.N.. and in the USA with 87 O.N. as well as MOGAS.
