Mid-West Engines Ltd manufactured Wankel type rotary piston engines based on Norton bodies.

-The most commercialized engines are the AE45R and AE90R.

“AE-45R”

-The AE45R is the original P80 model, it has a single Wankel-type rotor displacing 294 cc and delivers 40 HP at 6,000 rpm and 60 HP at 8,000 rpm. What is very important regarding its little displacement.

-Wankel engines offer little front area, low weight/power ratio and low levels of vibrations. They are used in ULM, RPV and Drones.

Mid West AE50R
“AE50R”

-The AE50R rotary is called “Harrier”. It also has a displacement of 294 cc and gives 50 hp. There is a double rotor version of this engine, the AE110 “Hawk”, with 588 cc giving 105 HP.

-It has two Wankel-type rotary engine bodies and a generous front reduction gearbox.

Mid West AE90R
“AE90R”

-The AE90R is the double version of the AE45R because it has two rotors instead of one, it displaces 588 cc and gives 90 hp at 7,000 rpm.

-Both types, the 45 and 90, are cooled by liquid (water/glycol) plus some internal air currents. They have a double CD ignition system and RF protection and use Tillotson carburetors.

-Greasing is “partial loss”, so the oil pump is of the dosing type. Partial recovery can be achieved using an oil separator and a scavenge (recovery) pump.

-They can have an electric starter and an alternator.

-The rotation of the two aforementioned engines, viewed from the front, from the propeller plate, is clockwise for the AE90R as it has a superposed gearbox, and anticlockwise for the AE45R without gearbox.

-There is also a AE100 rotary with a power of 95 HP and a displacement of558 cc.

-By acquiring the “Hewland” it also has new engines, but these are already 2-stroke, alternative piston engines with double ignition.

Mid West AE75
“AE75”

-A classic, piston-type, three-cylinder engine.

-The AE75 is a three-cylinder with a displacement of 740 cc giving 75 HP of power at 6,750 rpm.

-The two-cylinder is the AE50 with a displacement of 497 cc giving 50 HP at 6,750 rpm.
