Meteor of Italia made X-engines for light aircraft and target vehicles.
-Meteor SpA Construzioni Aeronautiche was located in Trieste.
-There are two main series, the "G" and the "Alpha".
-The first "G" engine was the G80CC built around 1958, with the formula of radially arranged cylinders in X.
“Meteor G90CA”
-There were engines of only one row, like the G90CA that gave 90 CV. They had a Roots supercharger, and fuel injection system.
“G180CA”
-The G180CA was a "double X" made up of two G90CAs. The power was 180 CV.
“G120CC”
-The G120CC gave 120 CV and the G240CC was a double G120CC that gave 240 CV.
-From the “Alfa” series, the Alfa 1 model, gave 120 hp, the same as the Alfa 1AQ, with supercharger to maintain power up to 7,000 meters in altitude.
“Alfa 2”
-The Alpha 2 was similar to the Alpha 1. It had 4 cylinders in "X", and was used for commercial applications. Its power lowered to 110 hp but with an emergency rate of 5 minutes at 120 hp. It had fuel injection and mechanical supercharger, like all the previous ones.
-The Alfa 2AQ, with a supercharger was developed to maintain 110 hp from the ground up to 7,800 meters of altitude.
-The Alfa 2V was prepared for vertical mounting with the intention to be installed on helicopters. Its specifications are identical to the Alpha 2.
“Alfa 3”
-The Alpha 3 is like the Alfa 2, intended for special applications such as "drones".
-It delivered 160 CV. The Alfa 3AQ also had a supercharger to operate at more than 7,000 meters of altitude.
-Some series of these engines could operate at 10,000 meters.
-The Alfa 4 was like the 2 but with 8 cylinders. It was the result of joining two Alfa 2 engines delivering 240 HP. There was also the Alfa 4V series for the same use as the Alfa 2V.
“Alfa 4”
-Finally, the Alfa 5 was basically similar to the Alfa 4 and already gave 320 HP of power.
-The design and application of Meteor engines was aimed at RPVs, like the P-1 shown below.
“RPV, P-1”
-It was around 1958-59 when a small series of two-stroke four-cylinder G80CC X-engines were made.
-They were designed by engineer Giannini and would be the base of other engines that would already be known as Alfa 1, the G90CA with four cylinders in X and giving 90 CV at 2,800 rpm.
-The Alfa 2, G120CC with four cylinders in X and delivering 120 CV at 3,500 rpm.
The Alfa 3, G240CC with 8 cylinders giving 240 CV at 3,500 rpm.
Alfa 4, G180CA with 8 cylinders in X delivering 180 CV at 2,800 rpm.
From Appendix 6: On the RPV shown below there is an Alpha Meteor engine propelling this unorthodox machine.
“Vehículo sin piloto con motor Meteor”
We are not sure that the engine is from Meteor of Italy for this engine, which still being a model of the brand (Alfa), does not follow the typical design of Italian Meteor engines, (see).
-As we know they are all X-engines, whether they have 4 or 8 cylinders. This engine has only two cylinders. Research on this Remoted-Piloted Vehicle continues.
