William J. Mekker of Newbury in Ohio, modified a 1,600 cc Volkswagen between 1967 and 1969. It had four horizontally-opposed cylinders and double carburetor. It had simple ignition, and it gave 65 HP at 4,000 rpm.

-Another publication says it gave 73 HP at 4,800 rpm. It weighed 163 pounds and the pistons had 83 mm bore by 69 mm stroke. In other words, an oversquare engine.
