Manufactured by the Limbach Flugmotorenbau of Köningswinter, Sassenberg. Founded by Peter Limbach in the early 1970’s.

-We note that many engines start with the letters L or SL, before indicating the cubic capacity in cc. The letters SL indicate that the engines have been designed by needs and in collaboration with Sportavia, for their aircraft, motorgliders, such as the Sportavia RF-5B or the Rene Fournier RF-9.

-Suffixes after the displacement indicate the type of accessories, refrigeration or fuel system. (F injection and T turbocharging. E (Ein) single ignition and D, double.

-Three groups can be considered: up to 45 CV, from 45 to 75 CV and from 75 to 130 CV.

-In the first group is the L-90E twin-cylinder that gives 6 CV at 8,500 rpm. It was built between 1989 and 1993.

-The L-275E, two-cylinder and two-stroke as well, gives 20-25 CV at 7,300 rpm, and is manufactured from 1982 to the present. With two carburetors.

-The L-550E is 4-cylinder and gives 45/50 CV at 7,500 rpm.

-It has four carburetors. The first one was made in 1987 and production continues until today.

-There were many versions of this engine, such as E, EI, EA, EC, EO, ECI, EAI, EB, EBI, D.

-All engines of the E series, except the EB, give 61 CV at 3,200 rpm and 68 CV ​​at 3,600 rpm.

-The power of the SL-1700EB is just over 66 CV at 3,200 rpm and 73 CV at 3,600 rpm.

-The EA and EO models have the cruise lowered to 56 CV at 3,300 rpm. and 66 CV at 3,600 rpm.

Limbach L-1700EO / EC

-The L-1800EA engines gave 55 CV at 2,600 rpm and 66 CV at 3,500 rpm. They were manufactured between 1991 and 1995.

-There was also an SL-1900D, with double ignition. 65 CV at 3,200 rpm and 74 CV at 3,600 rpm. (1974-1976).

-The 2600 cc VW has also been adapted for aviation, starting with 90 CV in the standard DI model.

From Appendix 9: In 2012 the Limbach offer increases with these three engines, derived from previous ones of the same displacement. They are based on VW.
