(See Gramme).
Together with Charles Renard Krebs made a multipolar electric motor in the year 1884.
-It was designed by Arthur Krebs and fitted on the airship "La France".
-With this engine several flights were made in which the device could be controlled in all maneuvers. Krebs made the engine and Renard the airship.

-The electric motor made by Krebs was a multipolar machine that gave 8 CV with a weight of 96 kg and at a speed of 3,600 rpm, transmitted through a gearbox to the propeller that rotated at 50 rpm.
-The engine was powered by a battery with light-weight cells of chromic acid and hydrochloric acid. Each cell contained a positive silver electrode and a negative-pole zinc pencil.

-The battery weighed 400 Kg and could give 16 CV during an hour, and in this case for 1 hour and 39 minutes.
-The following year, in 1885 the Krebs engine was changed for the Gramme engine. This was a bipolar dynamo of 9 CV, of much lower weight, which allowed to carry a third crew.
