Engine designed by Ray Harroun (famous racing car driver) who united knowledge with Bates to build a 24 hp engine with two horizontally opposed cylinders, in 1910.
-It was installed on an airplane of a joint design as well, based on the Bleriot XI monoplane.
From Appendix 6: Through the AEHS (Aircraft Engine Historical Society) and information provided by member Richard Loftis, we have photographs of the V8 engine.
-We expand the information of the main text, adding a small comment on the visible construction details.
“The Harroun V8 engine” (AEHS, photos RL)
-It highlights the side combustion chamber, with its spark plug, the exhaust valve below it, and the intake valve above it, clearly attached to the cylinder.
