Aerospace Engines A to Z
Aerospace Engines A to Z

Updated: 30-Jul-2020

Representative brand of material for aeromodelling fans. Lately it offers certain high-power motors for super-models and that are used in small RPV-type aircraft, unmanned aircraft, which are used for surveillance, photography, TV, etc. They are of regular size, as can be seen by the size of the propeller coupling. The power of the Hobao MAC 28 6P is 4.5 HP. This engine has a handle for manual starting.

“ZDZ 80”

-As examples of Graupner's larger piston engine offer. The ZDZ, with 80 cc, gives 8 hp, or more than necessary to drag a motorized glider as well. We see that this engine has a "pick-up" for the electronic ignition whose control box is attached. It works with 4.8 Volts.

-The weight of the engine is 2 Kg. And the speed is controllable between 1,200 and 8,200 rpm.

-They are no longer the classic 2'5 or 3'5 cc aeromodelling engines that were used in circular flight and the first radio control.

-We see that the progress is also reaching small turbines that start with the size big enough to power the normal rc models, and are evolving to powers from 120 to 170 N.

“Turbine G booster”

-The rotation range, which is controllable by FADEC!, is surprising us. They are between 30,000 and 123,000 rpm.

From Appendix 11: The Graupner company, in fact, has not manufactured the piston engines mentioned above. They acquire them from factories such as OS (Japan), ZDZ (Czech Republic) and HoBao (Taiwan). About the Turbine G booster we do not have sufficient information of its origin. It could be that they are made by Graupner.

-As a rule, in this edition of Engines A-Z we do not mention model engines. But we will make an exception if some engine reaches a sufficient power to propel a paraglider or an ultra-light aircraft.

-In this edition there also is a Micromotor chapter.
