Dyna-Cam Aero Engines Corp. has built a revolver-type engine with double pistons sliding on its central part on a sinusoidal cam attached to the main rotation shaft.

Dyna Cam, Cam-piston set
"Cam-piston set"

-During years it has been known as the X-375.

-With a displacement of 373 cu. In., it had 6 double-active pistons equivalent to a 12-cylinder engine.

-It delivered 200 hp at 2,000 rpm and 650 ft/lbs of torque at 1,200 rpm. It came into production around 1997.

-The development comes from much further back, when the Studebaker employees, inventors of the system, (Blazer and others) devised it in 1916.

-They sold the idea to their company in 1936. Around 1950, in view of the fact that the product was not achieved, they decided to build an improved engine that after vicissitudes, in 1987, flew in a Piper Arrow.

-The engine tested on the Piper was the DC-375, a 12-cylinder (6 double-effect pistons), "Barrel-type" engine with an external appearance of a turboprop, according to some opinion. It is liquid cooled.

-The fuel was injected and the ignition by magneto, and some engines had electronic ignition. We see some engine parts with the shaft and the sinusoidal cam in the center.

From Appendix 6: There is already a description of this engine in the corresponding chapter of the main text. We provide complementary information to clarify its operation.

Dyna Cam, Principle of operation

-On the engine shaft there is an oscillating plate over which the double pistons slide.
