It's the Dayton Airplane Engine Co. that was founded in Ohio in 1927. The first known engine was the "Bear" of 1928.

-This engine was a modified Hall-Scott model A-7 (Liberty). Instead of having the 5 x 7-inch cylinders, it had 4'5 x 7 inch cylinders.

-The "Bear" gave 100/120 hp with a displacement of 444 cu. in. and it got ATC-11.

-We can see the Bear from the other side more detailed. It had a total displacement of 445 cu. in. with four upright inline cylinders giving 110 hp at about 1,550 rpm.

-There were projects with 6 and 8 inline cylinders from which are not known any results, although their powers are: 225 hp for the six-cylinder and 350 hp for the eight-cylinder.

-In 1930 the company moved to Rhode Island. But before, in 1929, the "Grant" appeared, a horizontally opposed eight-cylinder engine that gave 200/225 hp and when fitted with gear it gave 280 hp at 2,500 rpm. It had a displacement of 764 cu.in.

-Another engine arose when Dayton belonged to Globe Tools. It was an inverted four-cylinder engine that gave 52 hp

-Another well-known Dayton engine was the "Aero Four", smaller than the Bear with 3'9 ". of piston diameter by 4'3 " of stroke.

-Actually the "Aero Four" was presented as a kit to be built with Ford Model A components.

-Another Dayton engine was an inverted four-cylinder called Dragon. It gave something more than 60 hp.

-And still another Dayton engine is mentioned, the Flight.

-Although it seems that it was not built by the factory itself, but the rights were passed to Pheasant Aircraft Co. in Wisconsin.
