CRM engines were specialized for use in motorboats, railways and were also intended for aviation.

-The 18D / SS was, in fact, an engine derived from the Isotta Fraschini ASSO 1000 aviation engine with the addition of turbochargers.

-These engines were installed on the Westhinghouse Sentinel airships of the US Navy.

-They have 18 cylinders in W and deliver a maximum of 1,850 hp at 2,100 rpm.

From Appendix 6: We localized an application of this engine that was modified by CRM in Milan to be used in airships. The engine had an application in the United States.

-It is the Westinghouse Airship Industries Sentinel 5000 airship with a large triple-deck gondola, bunk beds, lounges and accommodation for long surveillance missions. It has multiple electronic media.

-But we are interested in its propulsion system. The CRM 1,800 hp engine drives the two adjustable, lateral tube propellers for lifting maneuvers.

-The propulsion engine, in the stern is a GE CT-7 driving a four-blade propeller.
