Exceptional design of a 4-cylinder, air-cooled, inverted V engine with staggered-installed cylinders in the crankcase,  or "quinconcés" in French.

-The 95 hp version is the Chaise 4-A, with four inverted cylinders in a 14° V and they are also staggered. It has a displacement of 6,020 cc.

-The 95 CV gave 111 CV at 1,900 rpm increasing to 118 CV at 2,000 rpm.

-The 135 CV 4-Ba model was unsuccessful. Anyway, I did not get the expected recognition or known application.

-These engines were built by “Omnium Metallurgique et Industriel” (OMI) and directed by M. Chaise.

-The initiative was from Claude Bajard. It was installed on the Caudron Phalene Junior and the Duverné Saran.

-The first is the 4-E that gives 40 CV at 2500 rpm and has two liters of displacement.

-The shown 130 CV engine is the 4-B with 7 liters of displacement. The 130 CV is given at 2,100 rpm and 155 CV was reached at 2,300 rpm.

-In all these pictures taken from the 1932 "Les Ailes" magazine we can see the staggered cylinders more clearly. This makes the engine shorter than usual inverted four-cylinder engines.

Chaise AV-2
"Chaise AV-2"

-The AV-2 model gives 100 CV at 2,000 rpm and is from 1930.

-The 4-C delivered 120 CV at 2,100 rpm and was fitted on the Caudron 274. In 1934 they present the 25 CV with gearbox.

-It was an interesting family of engines that also ended up in the Snecma orbit.

-The engines designed by Riffard from the Chaise brand were built at OMI or Omnium Métallurgique et Industriel.

-For the 1933 contests they present an 8-cylinder Chaise. It was something like the assembly of two classic four-cylinder Chaise engines that were placed horizontally and opposed.

-It was intended for 320 CV at 3,000 rpm. Although it is not known if it went into production.
