S.S. Balandin built some very interesting radial engines.
"OMB"
-Balandin made its first engine based on the M-11's cylinders and pistons.
-From 1941, they started a new engine family with well known engines like the MBs, but based on the system that we have seen in the picture above.
-They were “Conrod-free” type engines. The first crankshaft is floating and by means of gear it drives the main shaft, though we see that it is divided in a front and rear part.
-This four-cylinder X-engine delivers 90 CV.
"MB-4"
-The MB-4, was based on the OMB principle, giving 140 CV. The MB-8 was a double MB-4 delivering 280 CV.
"MB-8"
-An improved MB-4 version was the MB-4b X-engine that reached 200 CV, with the same 4 cylinders.
-The same was done with the 8-cylinder, MB-8b, to reach 400 CV.
"MB-4b" (PiP)
-Included in its projects were the 12-cylinder OM-127o and the 8-cylinder OM-127RN, giving 2,100 CV and 3,200 CV respectively.
"OM-127RN"
-The M-127 versions went increasing upto 9,000 CV and the M-127k upto 10,000 CV.
-NOTE: This information was provided to us from Vladimir Kotelnikov's book "Russian Piston Aero Engines", currently available in L'Aeroteca. (PiP).
