Aries manufactured the Hispano Suiza V8 engine under license during the First World War (between 1915 and 1918).

From appendix 6: We found an Aries aviation engine built during WWI.

-It is a Hispano Suiza V8 as mentioned in the main text, it was built under license. There were several automotive and mechanics factories that had to change to the manufacture of war material.

-The three previous views have been taken at the exhibition commemorating the first real and controlled flight in Spain by the Frenchman Julien Mamet in Barcelona on February 11, 1910.

-Now 100 years later an aeronautical exhibition commemorates this fact.

-The engine belongs to the private collection of Josep Castellsaguer from Mataro, where the exhibition “L’Odissea de Volar” has taken place.

Author's note: In relation to the comment in the Aries text, it is now said that the first "flight" in Spain was realized in Paterna (Valencia) by Juan Olivert Serra in a plane designed by the Catalan Gaspar Brunet i Viadera and built in Barcelona at the Rosell i Vilalta workshops.

-Anyway, they insist in considering it a "flight", to a "jump" or "hop" of 30 meters at about 10 cm. A poor elevation without effective control.

-It happened on September 5, 1909. The plane was called "The Volaoret" in Valencian and the engine was an Anzani three-cylinder fan-shape that gave 25 CV.

-It had nothing to do with a controlled flight. At the end of the "jump" the device bumped and broke.

-There is no comment on the pilot's training for this achievement, or if he was a brave and daring person. Brunet's machine seemed capable of flying.

-Anyway it seems to be neither of these two. On a visit of mine to the documentation center of "Musee de l'Air" in Le Bourget, while investigating on my engine subjects, I met a French historian who was sitting at the table next to me and he told me that the first flight in Spain was done by a Frenchman, who took off in Biarritz and finished on the beach of San Sebastian, well before those dates.
