WANKEL SUPERTEC engine specifications

Also known as WST (Wankel SuperTec) and its models as KKM, from KreisKolben Motorenfamilie.

-These engines are based on those of Wankel R&D GmbH, Wankel Rotary GmbH, and Rotary Power International.

-This is a family of rotary engines with an expandable modular concept, as shown below.

-The contrast with classic four-stroke Otto engines, with crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons, is extraordinary, both in terms of the number of parts and the size, weight, and operating quality, as the Wankel is smoother and quieter.

-In the automotive industry, the Mazda brand excels for the quality and quantity achieved. Its engines are adapted by numerous aircraft manufacturers.

The principle of the Wankel rotary piston engine is that three effective strokes occur in each revolution, thus producing more power than its piston equivalents.

The following comparative example is not exact, as a two-rotor Wankel produces 12 effective strokes every two revolutions, compared to the four strokes every two revolutions of the four-piston engine shown here.

Currently, two families are in production, in two different categories or sizes: the KKM-350 and the KKM-500.

The first KKM-350 family consists of two models:

The single-stage KKM-351, producing 35 kW at 6,000 rpm, and the twin-stage KKM-352, producing 70 kW at the same rpm.

The KKM-500, also operating on a diesel system and turbine fuel (kerosene), appears to be a more ambitious project due to the planned variants.

With a single rotor, it offers 48 kW or 65 hp. With two rotors, it offers 96 kW or 130 hp. The three-rotor version produces 144 kW or 195 hp. The four-rotor version produces 192 kW or 260 hp.

-Currently, the KKM-501, with 48 kW (65 hp), is offered.
