We know the Vought Corporation as being associated with aircraft manufacturing, with Chance and Temco, all aircraft builders. But there is a little-known facet of Vought: the construction of ramjets for its own missiles.
- It is integrated into the missile structure and has a rocket motor. We know how ramjets work: they paved the way for today's "scramjets."
- The Vought STM Missile was part of a Navy program.

- Four square-section rear inlets fed the ramjet.
From Appendix 6: Tests of the IRR (Integrated Rocket Ramjet) engine of the Vought Chaparral missile were carried out in the wind tunnel located in Dallas in conjunction with United Technology Chemical Systems and Ford Aerospace.

-The practical application of these ramjet engines is also found in this brand on the LTV (Ling TemcoVought) ALVRJ type, or Air-Launched Low-Volume RamJet.
