“Voisin 42M”
- In 1938, Gabriel Voisin, in collaboration with Gnome-Rhone, began developing an engine with an initial 2,000 hp, capable of doubling its power with subsequent developments.
- The Voisin 42M concept emerged, with 42 valveless cylinders and 2,200 hp, as early as 1940.
- It consisted of six 7-cylinder engines. The project was abandoned in 1949.
- Some reports suggest that engines like the BMW-003 were possibly produced during WWII and shortly after.
- It appears as a Snecma division to manufacture a “003” type turbojet, an Atar? (see Group 0).
From Appendix 7: There is possibly an adapted Voisin car engine, as there is no known evidence of aircraft engines of this make being manufactured at this time. Year 1909. With 40 hp.
