This engine was used by German turbine pioneers Von Ohain and H. Wolff to demonstrate the principles of the Holzwarth cycle, which involved heating compressed air through combustion.

Tuttlingen was the site of the demonstration and the name given to this test engine. Von Ohain would go on to design the first turbojet engine to fly in history, on the Heinkel He-178.
