This engine was built by the Taft Peirce Manufacturing Company of Rhode Island.
-Its designer was Victor Lougheed who was the older brother of Allan and Malcom, founders of the Lockheed Aircraft Company.
-Victor designed the engine but the prototype was manufactured by the aforementioned company.
-And this is the name by which this engine is known. This was in 1911.
“Motor Taft Peirce”
This 2-stroke engine is known as a V8, but in the two photographs provided here, it looks more like an engine with the cylinders in an X, since the rear rows of cylinders are visible.
“Partly disassembled at the NASM”
-Another description of this V8 engine indicates that eight cylinders were generating power and the others were for pumping to provide pressure to the crankcase. We are investigating.
