Lenape Aircraft and Motors Inc. was based in Matawan, NJ. They built engines with the following names and characteristics:

-Aeromarine AR3-160.

-Aeromarine AR3-340-161.

-Later they made the LM-3 and LM-365, called "Papoose" that delivered 50 and 65 HP with 3 radial cylinders and with 160 and 167 cu. in. of displacement. They were improved Aeromarines AR engines.

-The LM-5 and LM-125 were called "Brave", giving 85 and 125 hp. They were 5-cylinder radials.

Bleriot XI model

-The LM-7 engine, called "Chief", delivered 150 HP and had 7 radial cylinders with a total displacement of 378 cu. in.

-EL LM-375 was another "Papoose" giving 75 hp with 170 cu. in. of displacement.

-In the illustration a Bleriot XI with a Lenape Papoose 45/50 HP engine.

-The bizarre history of Lenape begins with the Aeromarine Plane and Motor Company and its successor Burnelli Aircraft Ltd., and eventually it was acquired by Lenape Aircraft and Motors Inc.

-So, the Aeromarine AR-3 engine would end up being the "Papoose" at Lenape, becoming the AR-3 Model 160.

-The Aeromarine AR-340 was the AR-340 Model 161.

-The five-cylinder AR-5 was the 90 HP Braves and the AR-7 was the 135 HP Chief.

-There was the Papoose LM-3 that gave 50 hp at 2,200 rpm. The LM-365 gave 65 HP at 2,350 rpm.

-The Papoose LM375 delivered 75 HP.

The author of this edition of Aeroengines AtoZ, through Aeroteca, collaborated on Version 2 of this video, which is presented here.

To understand the operation of the connecting rods, the 1929 Continental R 670 single-cylinder engine was chosen.

A demonstration of Version 3, improved at the author's suggestion, is also available on YouTube at a later date. This version shows bronze valve guides, improved valve spring movement, and the split crankshaft counterweights and front bearing balls also move.
