M&D Flugzeugbau, a Friedeburg-based company in Lower Saxony, has built a glider engine mount for sustained flight using a small TJ-42 turbine, retractable inside the fuselage.
“The JS-1, TJ-42 on the back”
-The engine uses Jet A-1 standard aviation kerosene mixed with Aeroshell 500 turbine oil, to lubricate the bearings.
“TJ-42 cross-section"
-The power is about 40 Kgf of thrust at 100,000 rpm.
-The engine is controlled with a single lever through an ECU, a digital engine control system (Engine Control Unit).
-These small engines, derived from those used in model aircraft do not produce vibrations, it is considered a “sustainer” or flight holder.
