HENDEE - INDIAN
(USA)
(See Indian too). This engine manufactured by Hendee Manufacturing Co, in Springfield, Massachusetts, was based, and had constructive details of the French Gnome's Omega.
“Hendee - Indian”
-This rotary engine was made in 1911, and it had 7 radial cylinders.
-It gave 50 hp at 1,100 rpm, with a displacement of 513 cubic inches.
-This unit at the NASM has no carburetor and it has some physical damage.
From Appendix 10: We can show a new photograph of the Indian engine manufactured by Hendee.
“Hendee Indian rotary radial engine”
-The engine was presented at the Boston Show, around 1911. The first defects of the previous models were corrected, the main one being the spark plugs filled with lubrication oil, due to the position of these plugs.
-The mixture circulates inside the engine and enters the cylinders through automatic valves aided greatly by the centrifugation, and the improperly placed spark plugs acting as "cups", instead of preventing the oil from entering by the centrifugation and engine rotation.
-The author notes that the engine is fixed at the rear as most rotaries, but it also has a front collar attached to a support.
-Possibly with a bearing between the support and the engine. This would give the whole more firmness.
