As a captain, Frank Whittle was the inventor of the first satisfactory jet propulsion aircraft engine in England.

-His first unit worked in 1937. In 1930, he related the idea of a gas turbine with jet propulsion in its patent 347206.

-Although the first plane in the world to fly with this system was the German Heinkel He-178, with an engine designed by Von Ohain. (see).
